1sentenceblogger is taking a self claimed break!

It is nearing the end of the semester! 2 more teaching weeks, including this one, then that's it, end of my Year 4 Second Semester. Time sure flies...

Well, that's not the point. The point is, I am now spending more time in my studies (ugh, the nightmarish load of assignments!), in myself and also friends, since some are leaving after this semester due to graduation and Perth. So, less time for my blog, to balance it out. That doesn't mean I am abandoning the blog, just taking a break, sort things out and before you know it, I will be back full blast! Remember I still haven't posted the entry for Curtin Prom 2009? 1st thing I will do once I am free is to post that long delayed entry... had been sitting in my draft folder a lil' bit too long.

Until then, cheers, have a good life, keep the night candle running, remember to submit your assignments on time and all the best is exams!

Adios!

Sentence for 18th October 2009

Sentence: Sleep is the ultimate pleasure... and it's free!

Ugh, pretty much ended up dead on the bed for the whole day, except for a few hours active during the afternoon. I even skipped dinner and slept till 11pm. Winded up having gastric and hell that was painful... Luckily there is a mee stall nearby my house so still managed to get up, wash up and drag my ass over for supper.

And that marks the end of another weekend... 3 more assignments this week, so better start early!

Sentence for 17th October 2009

Sentence: Eating and spending money are pretty much alike; one open mouth, the other is open wallet (Hii 2009).

For this entry I grabbed a quote from a friend of mine, Shirley. There is some truth behind this: natural instincts to splurge on the unnecessary and can't control what we eat, which pretty much goes into the same category of unable to deny pleasure.

Today is a day for total karma and goodness! It is A Day With PDK! Some of you, especially those not from Miri, might not heard of PDK before. It is a non-government organization (NGO) who specialized in helping mentally challenged children and their parents to overcome their problems, hopefully able to help these special children to be independent and fit into society. If anyone is interested to help them, in Miri, or want to organize any events to help them, please feel free to contact me for more info.

A Day With PDK, an event organized by Rotaract Club of Curtin, Miri. The event OC was Rtr. Chai Wu Zhang, but he wasn't always at the scene since he has to run around making sure everything was in order and also make sure the lunch was prepared and brought to campus. So I was acting OC for the event and accompanied them along with 12 other Rotaractors. Here are some photos me and my brother took:

When we 1st arrived. There were 13 of them and 13 of us, along with 3 teachers from the center.

Curtin Tour and briefing. All these was done with me using English and really choppily improvised Malay Language >.< Luckily Rtr. Aileen Ho was there to help translate, she is actually quite fluent in the Malay Language

This was taken outside the Admin Building

Walking towards the School of Business

A teacher and a PDK member helping

The new Multi Purpose Hall and Delifrance

Taking a break after a long walk

And another break. Vice President Rtr. Felix Lam was on the scene

After the tour, we went to bring the children for a movie at one of our bigger classrooms. The movie on play was Bee Movie, I never watch that before so I also sit back and relaxed while the movie was on play.

After the movie, we brought them for some games: Musical Chairs was the 1st

The two finalists

After that we played The Eagle, the Hen and the Chicks (Rough translation from Mandarin). No photos of these till our OC upload the photos.

After that we had Rtr. Lu Jee teach them (and us) some basic Karate moves

Rtr. Bahahahaha distributing our lunch: McD set meals sponsored by McD. Many thanks to McDonalds, Miri

Happily eating while chatting with each other

After lunch, a group photo, then we sent them off back to PDK

Some of you might notice that not all the PDK children are actually that young. Some of them are actually older than me, but their mentality are still young, like children. The group that came with us are the older group, very obedient and all loves to play. Watch out for Rotaract booths opening around the cafeteria and posters on the notice boards for upcoming events!

Sentence for 16th October 2009

Sentence: Sometimes men can push the limits... and also the unlimited.

Wow, really a hectic week! Slept at 7.30am, woke up at 10.30am to do my Eng. Management project. Big big project, turns out the report was nearly 80 pages. Printed out till the last few pages, then out of ink. Had to use clumsy blotches of maker pen ink to repair some of the text, ugh. So wish I had a laser printer then...

But hey! That marks the end of my most hectic week! Only 2 more teaching weeks to go till the end of the semester, woohoo~ I am still wondering what I should do during my 3 month summer holiday. I haven't went to find a job yet, but that's most probably what I will do.

A typical Friday. Bowling with the family, dinner out. Then the Emo Kidz, or more like the Chiengs, organized a steamboat party just on Ian Chong's porch. Had fun just doing the normal chatting and some catching ups. It's been a while since the members of the Emo Kidz gathered, due to hectic assignments. Ian Chong slept through the whole party, wtf.

Sentence for 15th October 2009

Sentence: Hectic!

Well, 1 word can describe everything for this particular day! 3 assignments needed to be passed up the next day! Holy shiet!

Back to grinding the keyboard, chao~

Sentence for 14th October 2009

Sentence: Now I feel like the world is very small and at the same time not small enough... so small that some things happens so coincidentally it is hilarious; but at the same time it is not small enough as you just can't seem to meet some people.

Went to Bintang Plaza this evening, went to have dinner at Sushi King with some old friends. My bro and his friends tagged along. I still recalled 2 months before, the last time I dine at Sushi King, the service was good, choppy and fast. Even had a chat with the cashier/manager last time and he taught me how to use the points accumulated using my credit card. Cheerful and friendly crew, one of the reasons why I like to dine at Sushi King... and they also speak fluent English.

Two of my favourite dishes at Sushi King

However, my image of Sushi King shattered this time. They replaced the whole crew with locals. The food is still as I recall, but the service really turned my appetite back home. What I experienced about their "new customer service policy" that night:

1. When I arrived, there was no one welcoming me. Wait, let me correct that: There were 3 waitresses standing at the doorway and they greet me with sour faces and nothing else. They didn't ask me how many seats, didn't show me to my seat and what the hell happened to "welcome" in Japanese?

2. Ok, so I serve myself to my seat, fine. Still ok with not being welcomed positively, have my appetite intact and ready to attack the menu. One of the few things I noticed was that when I sat down, they gave me the menu but didn't give me a cup of tea and no saucer for the wasabi and soy sauce. Naturally, I request those items first, then proceed with the menu. I placed my order and my food arrived, but not the cup of tea and saucer. Naturally I requested, again, politely. I ordered two things, but only half came. Why half? Cause the tea came... in a teapot! What the hell! That's when I lost my patience and did the cup sign with my hand and mouth the words out "C-U-P", then the waiter goes "what?" (Do you have any manners lady? Usually people say "Pardon me", especially when you are in the servicing business). I repeated the hand gesture and mouthed the words out. The waitress goes like "Oh~ Cawan, ya?"
WHAT THE HELL!!!!! That's when I gave up on the saucer, I am 1000% sure they have no idea what I was saying in English. So I improvised and used something else as a saucer:

The one of the left is a "saucer", the one on the right is actually a top they use to cover the miso soup bowl, my imporvised saucer

3. At the cashier, I paid using credit card, gather points to be used the next time I go there. Oh my god... Slow! Really really slow! They key in the list slowly and steadily. Come on, you are running a cashier, not a freaking operation! And after I paid, where is the "Thank you" and "come again"? It is as if they want me out and be gone... forever! And the sour faces! At least lighten up when you speak with the customers, ok?

On a lighter note: I did promise photos from my last post, right? Well, here they are, posters from Curtin Career Fair 2009:

Posters/Banners like these can be seen everywhere on campus this week
P.S.: I am actually in the second poster from the right, can you spot me?

Take a good look at the first poster from the right. See anyone familiar? I never knew him as a knowledge user, lol.

Sentence for 13th October 2009

Sentence: Sending out resumes in a career fair is like giving out free toilet paper.

There is a Career Fair in Curtin University these 2 days, 13-14 October. Saw some people handing out resume after resume (Jojo), some just loiter around, fill in forms and gather brochures (me).

Saw some interesting posters up around campus in conjunction with career fair. Will post some up in the next post.

Sentence for 12th October 2009

Sentence: No grass on the busy road; No hair on the clever head.

Saw this from a video on Facebook, a student from NTU Electrical Engineering Department wrote this as a joke in a survey form for the lecturer. Completely hilarious! Just search for "Lecture at NTU Singapore".

Today, once again, I skipped my Monday classes. No feeling of guilt, however, and I think all of my friends knows why, haha. Basically the whole day was just smooth sailing, nothing much.

I had dinner with my housemates and my brother later in the evening thou. Went to one of my favourite restaurant called 快可利 (I hope I got the name right...). The place basically serve non-halal food with tonnes of selection of Chinese dishes, from the normal fried noodles menu to steamboat menu. Besides that the drinks are actually really good and really worth it!

My favourite drink! 鲜红毛榴莲冰沙 (Ice Blended Fresh Soursoup Juice)

The greens (Along with egg, tofu, fungus, seaweed, dried tofu and some noodle)

The most important ingredient: Meat! I ordered three-layered pork slices, but there are lots of other choices of meat

Add it all in and it looks like this. Also have some pin mushrooms floating about.

Damn, my mouth watered when I was writing this entry... Till next time!

Sentence for 11th October 2009

Sentence: 出国吃午餐。

This sentence sounds really cool, considering that we actually went out of the country for lunch, haha. For us it was pretty easy, it only took 10 mins to cross the border into Brunei and another 10 mins drive to our favourite Japanese restaurant, Escapade.

Escapade, Kuala Belait

The food there is to die for! To name some, Layer Sushi, Big Belly Fish, Alaskan Roll and Baby Octopus are highly recommended. There are lots of other delicious food on the menu of course, but didn't really go there often enough to try others out. Ian Tan's favourite is the Salmon Sashimi.

Quite a spread for 4: Me, Alf, Ian and Aileen

Looks like a real train, even have a driver up front, lol.

Escapade Express

Later in the afternoon, we went for a second round of food splurge: Durians! Since it is near the peak of the season, durians are running cheap. We went to Emart and ate some cheap, but nice durians, only RM5 per pop and can run as cheap as RM3 per pop. 7 of us went, had 9 RM5 ones and 1 RM25 ones. The RM5 ones taste better and quite meaty, but the RM25 ones have better texture and have a milder but slightly different taste.

Well, can't just eat and drink full then straight go back home to be a couch potato, right? So we went to campus to have a walk. Some of you might think us crazy and out of our minds but believe me, Curtin's sunset views and evening weather are quite pleasant.

This was actually taken at campus

Beautiful sunset reflection on Curtin Lake

Sentence for 10th October 2009

Sentence: Woke up this morning and found out my voice wasn't quite right... and I had to sing with the other Rotaract BODs later tonight!

Lost my voice when I woke up this morning... Thanks to the Sichuan Spicy soup I had the previous night at Little China.

Had the honor to take a group photo with the Rotary District Governor, flew in from Malacca, and also with the Dean of Curtin University. I actually woke up late and only in time for the photo session, haha.

Then had a very messed up rehearsal for our group song, Breaking Free. But we had it sorted out anyway. We settled with everyone taking a set of lyrics up to the stage. Will not look nice but is a lot better than nothing.

Then later at night I had to attend the 2nd Joint Installation of the Rotary Family, 2009. I got free tix since I am on of the BOD, so it was ok... at least the food was a gazillion times better than Curtin Prom 2009! And due to short of time, we didn't went on stage to perform! Woots!

Once again sorry for the absence of photos... waiting those to be uploaded and tagged on Facebook. Please check back at a later date.

Some funny stuff happened there. For one, PP William Chien was invited on stage to become a temporary MC and lucky-draw-boy, haha. I don't know if anyone took a photo of him on stage but he wore a simple buttoned t-shirt and shorts, you imaging that yourself.

Then there was this lucky draw tickets, each RM5 and the grand price was an Acer 14 inch laltop, followed by a Acer Netbook, an 8 megapix digicam and other 27 prices. IPP Ian Tan bought 2 tix, 1887 and 1888 for the draw... and ended up 1889 got the digicam. We all laughed at him for being out of luck, including PP William, he in fact laughed the loudest. But little did he know... he was forced to buy 10 tix from Rotary, numbered 2881-2890, that's RM50. When the number was drawn for the Acer Netbook prize, we all waited with batted breath as the number was announced. It was 2... 8... 8... *drum rolls*... 0! He had like number 1-9, meaning 90% chance the netbook could be his. But his luck was right down the gutter and into the sewage tank, the number was 0, the only number 288X which he didn't have. So much for "investing" Rm50, haha.

Sentence for 9th October 2009

Sentence: Life's like sand, you brush with each other into smaller bits, then combined with other bits to form a whole new you.

Happy birthday to our star of the day: Chloe!

No photos... still waiting :P

We gave a birthday surprise to her by appearing by her doorstep at exactly 12, with cake and everything. Then later at night we went to this place behind Siamese Secret's, called Little China. First time been there and I think the food was just so so, nothing special actually, and it came with a pretty big price tag.

Then we went to see this new movie: Surrogates, by Bruce Willis.

Movie poster!
SPOLER ALERT!!!!
I think the movie, concept and everything is pretty much ok; only ok, but not quite there yet. I do give 6 out of 10 for this movie. The few things which disappoints me is the ending. It pretty much sucked. I mean, the main character gambled billions of life for his own ideal, which is to have everyone become real again and to be able to be with his wife in the flesh. Second is the action! Oh my god, this is the first time a movie with Bruce Willis in it with such minimal action and so much talk.

Somehow quite a few movies this year is a complete disappointment.

Sentence for 8th October 2009

Sentence: All the things I want to say, all the things I want to do, all the things I want to express, cannot compare to how I feel about you.

Just another day as a student... and a son to my parents.
After class I went straight down to town, just to chit chat and have dinner with my parents. Quite enjoyable, considering I haven't had much intelligent talk with me being alone in my room, with my computer, doing assignments. I didn't even go out much with the Emo Kidz after prom, sigh.

But hey! It is finally weekends again! Woohoo~~! My enormous pile of what-not assignments is slowly diminishing and the thought of no classes for 3 straight days really cheers me up. Even my health is recovering. Wonders of weekends~~

Today, midnight, we did something fun... And it only took 16 minutes, lol. It's Chloe's birthday and we went to gave her a birthday surprise.
Happy Birthday, Chloe!

Sorry, no photos yet... Will upload here once those are available.

Sentence for 7th October 2009

Sentence: Life is like a flower: we all start out as seeds, need nurturing; then we grew and need to be taken care of in a nursery; then we are transplanted into a pot, our own world and society; then we started to grow bigger, transplanted into a bigger pot; then we produce buds, which needed lots of care or it will fall off; then finally the buds bloom, beautiful yet mysterious, which attracts others to us.

Still sick, not yet recovered, sigh. However the weather was nice, I really did enjoy the thin sunlight against my skin and the cool breeze that brushes on my cheeks. The weather had been hot past few weeks, with occasional rain drops. This is indeed a very relaxing day, perfect to nurse my sickness. Too bad I still have assignments to worry about, which does not help with my recovery at all!

Went to bowling, again, with the Emo Kidz. There is this Bowl All You Can, Rm19.90 and then you can bowl from 9-12pm, only on Wednesdays thou. I can't believe I still went, considering I am still sick and having a headache all the way, ugh. Anyway, had my share of fun. We played 8 rounds in total and there are some pretty awesome scores from our star bowler, Ianzz!!

192 points! Holy shietness! And we thought that was awesome enough for the night, till...

198! Holy shietness didn't even come close! 163 was Ian Tan, and he got turkey from a free strike, lol.

Stay tune, entry on Curtin Prom 2009 will come this Friday, if I can find the time.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Sentence for 6th October 2009

Sentence: Wow, today was such a short day for me: My day practically started around 7pm, when I am finally fully awake.

Woke up and 1st thing I saw is my email. Got an email from Eling, Mandarin comic strips, I find it quite entertaining (beside the fact that I don't recognize half the words), so I will post it here.
This one is about love life

This one is about secrets

This one is about watching a movie

This one is about how things remind you of people

This one is about life's trials

This one is about being life's servant

This one is about love, again

This one is about life's fulfillment

Sorry with the small pictures. I can't seem to find a way to adjust it to be 'readable'. Anyway, just click on the pictures for a bigger view.

Sentence for 5th October 2009

Sentence: Laying on the bed, perspiring, tried to get up but it feels as if someone is pinning down on the shoulders, throat felt hoarse and head feeling heavier than the rest of the body... then I realized I am sick.

Woke up today with minor sore throat and a MAJOR headache! Ugh... But then I can't stay in bed forever, got assignments I need to deal with, which makes it even much worse. Hope I can recover soon.

Sentence for 4th October 2009

Sentence: Pissed off at the fact that when you want something, it never comes; when you don't want it anymore, it comes to you and you have no idea how to get rid of it.

Don't trust the weatherman. Old school joke, but I find it really ironic today. Internet news suggested that Typhoon Parma, which hit Philippines a day before, will hit Borneo Isles during evening-night time. End up there's only roughly 15 mins of very very heavy rain accompanied by strong wind. Like I said: Don't trust the weatherman.

Starting to slack a bit on my blog nowadays. Entries made are now late by one day at least. I will try to motivate myself and keep this going on.

Sentence for 3rd October 2009

Sentence: Mooncake Festival... and I didn't even saw the moon, totally forgotten about it!

Last night's Curtin Prom Night was a blast (aside from the food... and program)! And the After Prom Party is even better! Many things happened and deserves a whole post just for it, plus I am still waiting for all the photos to go up on Facebook.

This year's Mooncake Festival was not as eventful as couple of years ago. We used to have our own barbecue, then walk around Senadin area with "tanglung" in our hands, the whole bunch. This year, we had a modest dinner at Lu Bin Tang, some went for a romantic dinner at some Korean Restaurant (someone, I am not gonna say who). Then we went to visit this Mooncake Festival Fiesta/Stalls in Campus:

Sorry, no photos since the Emo Kidz photographer, Joanne, was not on scene.

Then the whole bunch went to Ian's house for mahjong. Overall it is an uneventful Mooncake Festival, just another day with the Emo Kidz.

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Sentence for 2nd October 2009

Sentence: Mood swings are like a traffic light: when it's green, you PARTY; when it's yellow, you go emo; when it's red, you go like "RAWR" just like in GodGame Mahjong. :P

At any rate, my mood is in the RED zone for today.

Was rushing my Engineering Management assignment since last night. Then I went to Lutong with Xiao Li, Ai Ling, Annie, David and Jinno. Man, going there reminds me of how often I get to taste the delicious char kueh tiao + egg and the wantan soup... after going to Thai Bar with the Emo Kidz. We don't do that anymore thou :(

After our so-called breakfast, I had to work on the assignment again. Didn't get any sleep until like 6 something. Then I had to woke up around 9.30 to prepare for class, only to find out that class got canceled! Waking up early by alarm for no particular reason really is a bummer.

Then I had to go for Rotaract Installation Night rehearsal at campus. Went there quite late since I had to pass up my assignments and find some lecturers. We will be doing a performance, group singing, during that night and this is the song we will be singing:

Then right after that, I went back home to have some shut-eyes so I am well and prepared for... Curtin Prom Night 2009 and the After Party! More on those after I get back. Hopefully the food is better than last year's.

P.S.: I can't believe I saved and forgotten to publish this post yesterday...

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Sentence for 1st October 2009

Sentence: There is a foreboding moon tonight, with a rainbow ring around it, half-covered in clouds with some stars around it... Simply beautiful.

Moon is nearly round tonight, it is near towards Mooncake Festival already!

P.S.: My cat is outside enjoying the moon right now, he is a romantic dude.

Sorry, using XM5800 for this shot, can't see the stars and rainbow ring :(

Tomorrow is the long awaited Curtin Prom Night, themed Stars of Romance and Elegance (sucky theme, I know). Went for shopping with the guys, bought suspenders and bow tie, then follow them to the barbers. The shopping was so last minute, while I am typing this right now, they are still at town hunting shirts and slacks, lol.

I am planning to go with black collared long sleeve t-shirt with red suspender and slightly marooned-red bow tie and coat. Hopefully it will turn out nice. Not expecting something spectacular, just nice is good enough for me.

2 more days till my dad's birthday. Don't have a single idea what to get him this year. He got everything, so it is quite hard to choose a present. Any suggestions?
